Sketchy Rose with an Inktense Pencil

Good Afternoon everyone!

I am hosting Altenew blog today and I am featuring Sketchy Rose set. We had a discussion with my hubby the other day what is monochromatic and he suggested that it is purely something that can be made using only one pencil. Well, that really sounded a challenge for me all though I still believe a card can be monochromatic other ways too. So, I used Sketchy Rose and stamped it on coloured card stock and added shading with an Inktense pencil. I really had fun with this piece and I am planning on doing another with the same technique later on. I really really liked the end product, hopefully you do to. So here is my project for today:

I filmed while I coloured, if you wish to see it, you can watch it here or in HD in Youtube.

Supplies:
Stamps: Sketchy Rose and Sentiments and Quotes by Altenew
Inks: Memento Desert Sand, Versafine Onyx Black
Derwent Inktense Pencils: Oak (1730)

Thank you for visiting and have a great day! See you soon!
Marika

  1. oh so gorgeous! Loved watching you color! What brand watercolor brush are you using? I'm thinking it has really good water control to color on kraft without getting too much water!

    1. Hello! Thank you for your kind words. I'm using Derwent waterbrush no.2. I bought all three sizes in one package but I'm only been usin this medium size. The brush itself it is quite big but it really has a very fine tip for details too. I love it. Hopefully this helps.

  4. As I said on Instagram, this is utterly astounding! Quite possibly one of the most beautiful cards I've seen. You are so talented. I just bought myself a fine tip Derwent - I found my medium sized Zig water brush hasn't been quite fine enough for some things. I'll see how it compares :) xx

  5. This is gorgeous Marika and shows that you don't need lots of colour to give shape and form as that one pencil, a little water, and some clever shading has worked beautifully. x

    1. Thank you so much! Probably, I haven't tried but very good idea to try though. But, in two weeks I have another tutorial coming up at Altenew blog where I feature Vintage Flowers and inktense pencils. You might like that one too.

  9. Hi Marika!! I adore this creamy, dreamy, wonderful rose... what paper did you use? It looks like a natural one... but not water color paper. I love it!

  12. I haven't watched the video yet, so this comment is based purely on the finished card. It is stunningly gorgeous! I see from the screen capture that you are using a waterbrush. I know I am going to be even more impressed (if that is at all possible, as I'm intensely impressed with your talents already) because every time I have ever used a waterbrush I have had issues with extra water globbing onto my project. Thank you for sharing your incredible talents. :)

  13. Marika, this is a gorgeous image and your shading is fantastic. I also have less control with a waterbrush it seems, so I use a paint brush and dab water with that. I love watching your artistic creations. They never disappoint me. Thanks for sharing.

  16. Sorry I'm late in commenting on this post, Marika. Once again, I loved your card from the first moment I saw it! But I wanted to watch the video first before commenting, and I must say it's once again hugely informative. Thank you for all the work you put into those films. (And the beautiful music you're underlaying them with!)

  17. Can't wait til I get a minute to watch your video (my sister is visiting at the moment and not much crafty time for me...) Love your beautiful rose!

  18. I'm glad you took on the challenge, Marika, because this rose is extraordinary. I agree with your husband about monochromatic, although you could use more than one pencil as long as it's in the same color family. But why, when it looks so beautiful like this.
